History of KDM Helping Hands & The Future
Since starting KDM Helping Hands with our flagship event Christmas for Kids in 2011, where we adopt a school and provide them with a magical Christmas day with gifts, lunch, Santa, and so much more. The organization has evolved over time to where we have donated holiday hampers, and much-needed medical equipment as well as two larger more ambitious legacy projects, the first being the Ronald McDonald Hair Salon and the second the Family Room (Serenity Room) at the Sturgeon Hospital. This project taught us so much and one of the main things is how during a time of stress, grief and instability having a safe environment is important.
Prior to COVID, we had hoped to jump into our next big legacy project, reducing the ICU family room at the Sturgeon Hospital, the project had to be put on pause and now we are excited to be able to move forward on this important project.
The stress, overwhelm, fear and feeling lost and alone, during a traumatic time are made even worse when in a room that had no warmth, no love, no beauty, and no thoughts of better times or dreams for the future.
Hope and love are what we want to provide, this space will be used by hundreds and hundreds for years to come, this space will be where they have tough conversations with young children or make phone calls that with be bring joy or sadness to someone, this is a powerful space that needs our love and attention.
Prior to COVID, we received many quotes and in today's climate, those quotes have since doubled and even tripled it is our goal to raise funds to finish this project in 2023.
